Roobite app
Roobite privacy policy, support and account deletion
This policy takes effect on 4 October 2026.
Roobite is an iPhone app that suggests Melbourne restaurants and the dish to order at each one. It is made by SEOMAX, which is based in Melbourne, Australia ("we", "us"). This page explains what information the app uses, where it is kept, how to get help, and how to delete your account and data. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What is the short version?
- You can use Roobite without an account.
- Your taste profile, ratings, saved places, tried dishes and weekly picks are stored on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud database, and we cannot read them.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, we do not show ads, and we do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
- Roobite uses Google Analytics to count which screens and buttons people use, and you can turn this off in Profile.
- Sharing a weekly summary of your picks with us is optional, and it stays off unless you turn it on.
- Location is optional. If you allow it, the app uses it on your iPhone to show distances and never sends it to us.
- You can delete your account and all your data at any time in the app by opening Profile and tapping Delete account.
What information does the app use?
Your answers and activity. The quiz asks for your home country, an optional age range, the cuisines and kinds of food you enjoy, home dishes you love, how much spice, richness, sweetness, sourness and savoury flavour you like, and any dietary needs (halal, vegan or gluten free). As you use the app, it also records the dishes you mark as tried, your ratings (Loved it, It was fine, Not for me), the restaurants you save, the picks we showed you each week, and simple actions such as opening a restaurant. The app uses this information only to choose your picks. The age range never changes your picks.
Where it is kept. This information is stored on your iPhone and synced through your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit, so it can follow you to a new iPhone that is signed in to the same Apple Account. Apple stores your private iCloud data under Apple's own privacy policy, and SEOMAX has no access to it. If iCloud is turned off, the information stays on your iPhone only.
Sign in with Apple. Signing in is optional. If you sign in, Apple gives the app an anonymous identifier for your account. We do not ask Apple for your name or email address. We use the identifier only to show that you are signed in on your devices.
Restaurant catalogue. The list of restaurants, dishes and menus is the same for everyone. The app downloads updates of this list from a public CloudKit database, and these downloads do not include any information about you.
Which services from other companies does the app use?
Google Maps and Google Places. On a restaurant page, the app may show a Google Places card with photos, ratings and opening hours, and the Directions and Open in Google Maps buttons open Google Maps. To load the card, your iPhone sends the restaurant's place identifier to Google, and Google receives the technical information that any app connection carries, such as your IP address. Google's Places software in the app also uses a device identifier that is not linked to you, which Google declares to Apple as used for analytics and to make the service work. We do not send Google your taste profile, your ratings or any identifier for you. Google handles this information under the Google Privacy Policy.
Google Analytics. The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count which screens and buttons people use, as the next section explains.
OpenStreetMap. Some restaurant details, such as addresses and locations, come from OpenStreetMap and are included in the catalogue we build. The app does not send any information about you to OpenStreetMap.
Apple. Apple provides notifications, iCloud sync and Sign in with Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy.
How does the app use Google Analytics?
Roobite uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how people use the app, so that we can see which screens help people and improve the ones that do not. Google LLC provides this service, and Google Ireland Limited provides it to people in the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Google is our service provider, and it processes this information on our behalf under its data processing terms.
Google Analytics receives the following information from the app.
- It receives the screens you open and a few actions, which are finishing the quiz, tapping "I want to eat something but don't know what", opening a restaurant, tapping Directions, rating a dish as Loved it, It was fine or Not for me, and saving a restaurant.
- When you open, save or get directions to a restaurant, it receives the identifier of that restaurant in our catalogue.
- It receives an app instance identifier, which is a random code that the Google Analytics software creates for this copy of the app.
- It receives your device model, your iOS version, your language and the version of the app.
- Google works out your approximate region, such as your country and city, from your IP address, and Google does not store the IP address.
Google Analytics never receives your name, your email address, your Apple identifier, the location of your iPhone, your taste profile, your quiz answers, your dietary needs or anything you type. The app does not use the advertising identifier on your iPhone, and it does not include Apple's advertising framework. We have turned off ad personalization and Google signals, so Google does not use this information for advertising and does not connect it to a Google account.
We have set Google Analytics to keep event data and the app instance identifier for 2 months, and Google then deletes them automatically. Reports that only show totals, such as how many people opened a screen in a week, may be kept longer.
Usage statistics are on when you install the app. You can turn them off at any time in Profile by switching off Share anonymous usage stats, and the app then stops sending information to Google Analytics straight away. When you use Reset my data or Delete account, the app also replaces the app instance identifier with a new one. Google handles this information under the Google Privacy Policy, and Google explains how it uses information from apps that use its services.
How does the app use your location?
The app works without your location. In Browse, you can tap Nearby to sort restaurants by distance. Only then does your iPhone ask whether Roobite may use your location while the app is open. If you allow it, the app uses your location on your iPhone to show how far away each restaurant is, for example "1.2 km", and to sort the list. Your location is not stored, it is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it never changes which restaurants or dishes meet your dietary needs. You can turn location off at any time in iPhone Settings, and the app then shows the list without distances.
What does Help improve picks send?
In Profile, you can turn on Help improve picks. It stays off unless you turn it on. When it is on, the app sends us one small summary each week about the previous week. The summary contains only the following information.
- It names the version of the restaurant catalogue that the app is using and the week that the summary covers.
- For each dish involved, it gives the dish identifier, where in the app the dish appeared (for example This week or a restaurant page), its position in the list, the match label shown (for example Great match), and what happened (shown, opened, tried, saved, or rated Loved it, It was fine or Not for me).
- It carries a random code that the app creates. The app replaces the code with a new one every 28 days and deletes it when you turn the option off. Our server uses the code only to limit how often summaries arrive and to ignore a second summary for the same week, and it does not store the code.
The summary never includes your name, email, Apple identifier, home country, age range, dietary needs, taste profile, location or any advertising identifier. It only covers things that happen after you turn the option on. Our server on Cloudflare receives the summaries and keeps no request logs. The summaries are then stored in a CloudKit public database that SEOMAX controls, without any link to an iCloud account. We use them only to measure and improve how picks are chosen. You can turn the option off at any time in Profile, and the app then stops sending summaries straight away.
How do notifications work?
If you agree, the app schedules a weekly reminder on your iPhone to tell you that your new picks are ready. By default, it arrives on Mondays at 11:30 am Melbourne time. The reminder is created on your iPhone and does not need any information from us. You can change the time or turn it off in Profile or in iPhone Settings.
What do we not do?
- We do not use tracking or advertising identifiers, and the app does not track you as Apple defines tracking.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not collect the location of your iPhone. If you allow location for distances, it stays on your iPhone.
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
Is the app for children?
Roobite is rated 13+ on the App Store and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has used the app, the child or a parent can delete everything with Delete account in Profile, or you can email us for help.
How can you get help or contact us?
For help with Roobite, a question about this policy, a privacy request or a complaint, please email us at [email protected]. To tell us about a missing or wrong dish, tap Tell us on the restaurant page in the app. To send us feedback, tap Contact us in Profile. We aim to answer support questions within 7 days, and we answer privacy requests and complaints within 30 days.
How do you delete your account and data?
How do you delete your account in the app?
You can delete your account and all your data at any time in the app, and you do not need to contact us. Open Roobite, go to Profile, and tap Delete account, which is at the bottom of the page. The button is there whether or not you signed in.
If you signed in with Apple, the app first asks Apple to confirm that it is you. Our account server then asks Apple to revoke the app's access to your Apple Account, and the app deletes your data. If the app cannot reach our server, it deletes nothing and asks you to try again, so your account is never left partly deleted. If you did not sign in, Delete account removes all your data straight away.
If you want to keep your account but start again, use Reset my data in Profile instead. It removes the same data but keeps you signed in.
What does deletion remove?
- It deletes your taste profile and quiz answers, including your home country, age range and dietary needs.
- It deletes your ratings, tried dishes, saved restaurants and the history of your weekly picks.
- It deletes the record of simple actions, such as opening a restaurant.
- It deletes the random statistics code from your iPhone, which turns off Help improve picks.
- It replaces the Google Analytics app instance identifier on your iPhone with a new one, so later usage statistics cannot be joined to earlier ones.
- It cancels your weekly reminder.
- It removes the link between the app and your Apple Account, and Apple revokes the app's access to it.
Anonymous statistics that were already sent cannot be linked back to you, so nobody can find or delete them for a particular person. Google Analytics deletes the usage statistics it already received after 2 months.
What happens to your iCloud data?
Your data is kept in your own private iCloud database, which SEOMAX cannot see. When you delete your account, the app deletes the same data from your private iCloud database as well as from your iPhone, so it also disappears from your other devices. If your iPhone is offline at that moment, iCloud removes its copies the next time your iPhone connects.
You can also delete the app's iCloud data yourself at any time. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap iCloud, and then tap Manage Storage. Choose Roobite in the list and delete its data. Deleting the app from your iPhone removes the data on that iPhone, but the copy in iCloud stays until you delete it in one of these ways.
What happens to Sign in with Apple?
When you delete your account in the app, Apple revokes the app's access to your Apple Account, and Roobite no longer appears as signed in. Our account server passes the request to Apple and does not store anything about you. You can also stop using Sign in with Apple for Roobite at any time. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Sign-In & Security, tap Sign in with Apple, choose Roobite, and then tap Stop Using.
What can you do if you already removed the app?
If you removed Roobite from your iPhone before you deleted your account, you can still ask us to delete your data. Email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my data". You do not need to send any other details. We do not keep your name, email address or Apple identifier, so we hold no personal information about you on our side. In our reply, we will confirm this in writing and guide you through deleting your iCloud data and stopping Sign in with Apple, as described above, because only you can do those two steps. You can also install the app again and use Delete account. We keep your email only as long as we need it to handle your request.
How long does deletion take?
- Deletion from your iPhone happens straight away.
- Copies in your private iCloud database are removed when your iPhone next syncs, which usually takes a few minutes when you are online.
- Apple revokes Sign in with Apple access as soon as you confirm the deletion.
- We reply to an emailed deletion request within 7 days and complete anything that needs our help within 30 days.
How do we keep information secure and where is it stored?
Your private data is protected by Apple's iCloud security, and connections from the app are encrypted in transit. Apple, Google and Cloudflare may store or process data on servers outside Australia. We chose these providers because they publish strong privacy and security commitments.
How can you see or correct your information, or make a complaint?
You can see and change your quiz answers, dietary needs, ratings and saved places at any time in the app. If you have a question or a complaint about privacy, please contact us using the details in the support section above. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
What are the terms of use?
Roobite is free, and Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to it. Google Maps features in the app are subject to the Google Maps Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Restaurant details, menus and dish suggestions are a guide only, so please check allergens and dietary needs with the restaurant before you order.
How will we tell you about changes to this policy?
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. For important changes, we will also tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
